Here's another hint for those who are trying to make progress with their genealogical research but still stay within their budgets ---- before you hop onto the internet to purchase a copy of the book that you need to consult, check your local libraries and repositories. You might be surprised what they do have. And, if no one in your locality has a copy of the book you need, perhaps your local library can obtain it for you through Inter-Library Loan.
Genealogists in the Topeka, Kansas area are very fortunate, as they are surrounded by some terrific libraries and repositories. In Topeka, we have the Topeka Genealogical Society Library (with nearly 10,000 genealogical books and 700+ periodical titles on the shelves), the genealogical and local history collection at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, and a terrific collection of resources at the Kansas Historical Society. In addition, within a short drive we have access to the amazing Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, Missouri. Get to know your libraries - they can save you lots of money!
